NICOLE A. BERTRÁN

Nicole BertrŠn is the Executive Vice President of The Edward J. Malloy Initiative for Construction Skills. Nicole joined Construction Skills in September 2008. Since that time she has successfully steered the organizationís pre-apprenticeship training. Prior to her tenure at Construction Skills, Nicole worked for the New York City Department of Small Business Services, Nontraditional Employment for Women, and the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs.

Nicole holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Rutgers University and a Master of Professional Studies (MPS) degree in industrial and labor relations from Cornell University. Nicole’s final research project for her MPS degree has been cited in academic research and industry policy papers. The paper is entitled, Meeting the Challenge of Increasing Diversity in the Unionized Construction Industry: CSKILLS and the Role of Pre-Apprenticeship.

Nicole is a member of the New York City Department of Education Career and Technical Education Advisory Council and serves as the chair of the Councilís Industry Engagement Commission on Construction and Sustainability. Nicole is also a Junior Fellow of the United Way of New York City Nonprofit Leadership Development Institute, a recipient of the New York City Mayorís Graduate Scholarship, a graduate of the New York City Leadership Institute, a graduate of the United Association for Labor Education Northeast Regional Summer School for Union Women, and she holds a certificate in GPRO: Fundamentals of Building Green from the New York chapter of the United States Urban Green Council.

Nicole is committed to creating meaningful career opportunities in unionized construction through pre-apprenticeship training and other workforce development initiatives.
