MESSAGE FROM OUR LEADERSHIP:
BUILDING CAREER OPPORTUNITIES FOR NEW YORKERS

We are pleased to present the inaugural edition of Construction Skills’ quarterly newsletter, designed to keep you up-to-date with the happenings of our program. As you know, we are in the midst of an exciting period of growth and development. Entering into our 8th year, we have seen an unprecedented level of interest in the Construction Skills program, accepting New Yorkers from all five boroughs into the unionized construction industry through our pre-apprentice program. As we continue to place high school students and economically disadvantaged adults into our program, our goal is to raise awareness about the possibilities of a rewarding, long-term career that is accessible to people from all backgrounds.

Our feature article in this issue highlights an exciting benchmark for the Construction Skills program, the placement of our 1000th student into a union apprenticeship program. You will also see that we are proud of numerous other successes, such as the strong 83% retention rate of those individuals we place in the trades. In each issue, we will feature an interview with a current apprentice in the program, to hear about their experiences firsthand.

As Construction Skills looks to the future of our organization, we welcome your support in our mission to build opportunity and diversity in New York’s building trades.

Sincerely,

Louis J. Coletti

PLACEMENT PROGRAM HAS RECORD SUCCESS RATES

As our program continues its rapid growth, one of the best indicators of our success is our referral record. 83% of those placed by Construction Skills into union apprenticeship programs remain actively employed in the trades, with many now working as journeypersons. This record means our efforts have moved beyond equal opportunity to achieve better success rates for the populations we serve than those entering the industry through traditional means.
